April is the month of new beginnings, warmer weather, and plenty of opportunities to celebrate silly holidays. While most people are aware of the major holidays in April such as Easter and Earth Day, there are several lesser-known holidays that are just as fun to celebrate. In April there’s Haiku Poetry Day, Jelly Bean Day, and Zipper Day.

Haiku Poetry Day - April 17th

Haiku Poetry Day is a day to celebrate the beauty of haiku poetry. This form of poetry originated in Japan and is characterized by its three-line structure with a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. To celebrate Haiku Poetry Day, try writing your own haiku poem or read some of the most famous haiku poems from Japanese poets like Matsuo Bashō or Yosa Buson.

If you’re feeling extra creative, organize a haiku poetry reading event with your friends or colleagues. Each person can read their own haiku poem or share their favorite haiku poem from a famous poet. You could even create haiku poetry cards or bookmarks to give away as a gift.

Jelly Bean Day - April 22nd

Jelly Bean Day is the perfect excuse to indulge in everyone’s favorite bite-sized treat. You might even still have some left over from Easter! Jelly beans come in a variety of flavors and colors, making them a versatile snack for any occasion. To celebrate Jelly Bean Day, why not try making your own homemade jelly beans?

All you need is sugar, corn syrup, water, flavoring, and food coloring. Mix the sugar, corn syrup, and water together in a saucepan and heat until the sugar has dissolved. Add your desired flavoring and food coloring, then pour the mixture into a jelly bean mold and let it cool.

If you’re not feeling up to making your own jelly beans, you could always organize a jelly bean taste-testing event with your friends or family. Buy several different brands and flavors of jelly beans and blindfold each person while they taste and try to guess the flavor.

Zipper Day - April 29th

Zipper Day is a day to celebrate the humble zipper, which was patented on this day in 1913. Zippers are a ubiquitous part of modern clothing and accessories, but we often take them for granted. To celebrate Zipper Day, why not try making your own zipper jewelry or accessories?

You could create a zipper necklace, bracelet, or even earrings by attaching a zipper pull to a chain or earring hook. If you’re feeling extra crafty, try making a zipper flower or zipper bow by folding and gluing the zipper fabric into a decorative shape.

Another fun way to celebrate Zipper Day is to organize a zipper scavenger hunt. Hide different items around your home or office that have zippers, and give each person a list of items to find. The first person to find all the items wins a prize.

April is a great month to celebrate silly holidays and have fun with your friends and family. Whether you’re writing haiku poetry, indulging in jelly beans, or creating zipper accessories, there are plenty of ways to make the most of these amusing holidays. So go ahead and embrace the silly side of life this April – you won’t regret it!
